Orphaned Black Bear Cub Near Salmon Rescued

After receiving multiple reports from alert locals, a lone black bear cub near Salmon was rescued and is now en route to a rehabilitation center.

The Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) department was informed about a young black bear seen frequently along Salmon River Road near Panther Creek. The cub's absence of a mother indicated it was orphaned and had been alone for several days.

IDFG successfully located and safely captured the young bear. Remarkably, the cub hadn't grown accustomed to human food or presence, making it a suitable candidate for rehabilitation. It was then transferred to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator with expertise in caring for black bears.

Dennis Newman, a wildlife manager at Fish and Game, noted, "The cub, born approximately last February, would struggle to survive the winter without assistance."
