City fireworks may be canceled but that doesn’t mean the 4th of July is. Falling on a Saturday, there are so many ways to turn the 4th of July into a fun weekend event.
Here are some ways to celebrate the 4th of July this year.
Make it a neighborly celebration:
Gatherings of 50 or less are allowed. Get with neighbors and collaborate on some fun ideas. Make it a potluck, stop by any nearby firework stand, or possibly put a projector up and screen a movie for everyone to enjoy. This is not only a great way to socialize at a distance but to get to know neighbors.
Camping:
Boise has so many campsites, whether you are looking for reserving a spot or just winging it, here are some campgrounds or areas to think about. Camping is a great way to continue social distance while exploring Idaho and all of its beauty.
- Lucky Peak
- Hells Canyon
- Anderson Reservoir

BBQ and Chill:
There are tons of local parks around town that can be reserved for the 4th of July. Make it a day of grilling and yard games by reserving a spot. Ann Morrison Park, Kristin Armstrong Municipal Park, and other local parks are all available for reservation in Boise. Meridian Parks include Heroes Park, Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park, and many more. All parks can be reserved in time blocks. Fees range depending on which park you would like to reserve a spot at. However, there are some parks that are on a first-come-first-served basis. Call your Boise of Meridian Parks and Recreation for more information.
Note: not all areas offer a grill, when making a reservation specify if one is needed or if there are any other amenities you are looking to enjoy, like a nearby volleyball court. If you would also like to drink, a beer and wine permit is required, the fee is $10 for Boise and included in Meridian Park reservations.
