Get Excited to Ski Idaho This Summer

COIVD-19 won’t stop our Ski Idaho resorts from opening for summer biking and exploring. Each location has come up with comprehensive plans to ensure the safety of visitors, staff, and the community.

Some exciting news about upcoming additions:

  • Bogus Basin is building a brand-new bike park off it’s new Morning Star Express high-speed quad chairlift.
  • Brundage Mountain is creating new XC and downhill mountain bike trails.
  • Kelly Canyon is adding it’s first-ever onsite lodging and celebrating its new bike park’s first full summer season.
  • Lookout Pass will offer scenic chairlift rides and lift-served mountain biking on site for the first time.
  • Silver Mountain is celebrating the grand opening, of its new, less expensive lodging options, the Silver Inn.

Over half of Idaho’s ski resorts offer summer mountain biking adventures, trail exploring, and summer activities. 10 Ski Idaho resorts will offer summer mountain biking adventures and more.

Tamarack Resort in Donnelly, Idaho is open for scenic chairlift rides, Waterfront Cabana boat rentals, and lift-served mountain biking. The lift will operate Thursday-Sunday for scenic rides and mountain biking through September 13. Beginning June 6, Tamarack will offer zipline canopy tours. Guided whitewater rafting trips on the Payette River will hopefully kick off mid-June.

Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area, close to the historic town of Wallace, has opened the Route of the Hiawatha. The 15-mile route straddles the Idaho-Montana state line and is the most popular ski area bike trail in the country, it is accessible daily through September 20. New this summer, Lookout Pass will offer scenic chairlift rides and life-served mountain bike trail rides beginning mid-June.

Silver Mountain Resort in Kellogg, Idaho, has opened operations for mountain biking and scenic rides on North America’s longest gondola. Known for being Voted Best in the Northwest for Riders’ Choice Awards and being home to the state’s largest indoor waterpark, Silver Mountain is a fan favorite.

Kelly Canyon Ski Resort in Eastern Idaho is planning a grand opening event since this will be its first full summer season of operations but has a tentative open date as May 29. Kelly Canyon is spending this summer refining their trails and designing lodging facilities.

The Grand Targhee, in Driggs, Idaho, is open for downhill biking beginning June 19. The Grand Targhee is home to 60 miles of multi-use trails, scenic chairlift rides, horseback riding, and an 18-hole disc golf course.

Brundage Mountain has set a target opening date as June 20. The BlueBird Express lift will operate the last two weekends of June and then Wednesday-Sunday till Labor Day. Along with 26 miles of bike trails, the mountain also offers scenic chairlift rides, a golf course, outdoor dining, and a grassy amphitheater.

Biking season at Schweitzer Mountain Resort near Sandpoint begins June 26. With 40 miles of trails, e-bike tours, ziplines, disc golf, and scenic chairlift rides it’s no shock this mountain resort is beloved among Idaho residents and visitors. Schweitzer plans to host events towards the end of summer, but events are subject to change.

Bogus Basin, our local Boise mountain, has set intentions of opening on June 27. It will operate 7 days a week through August 16. Beyond it’s 23 mountain bike trails, and it’s new Morning Star Expres high-speed chairlift, Bogus operates the Glade Runner, scenic chairlift rides, summer tubing, and gold panning.

The world-famous Sun Valley Resort has yet to announce lift-served mountain biking but has opened its three championship golf courses and driving ranges. The resort lodging is expected to resume on May 30.

Ski Idaho resorts have been collaborating with the Idaho Ski Areas Association to create and implement COVID-19 operational and safety guidelines. With the health and wellness of staff and guests the top priority, Ski Idaho resorts have established COVID-19 taskforces to ensure safety protocols are being followed.
