Eagle Performing Arts Center Cultivates A Love For Dance

Last updated August 25, 2020 by Totally Boise

Eagle Performing Arts Center is “one of the strongest dance training programs in the Northwest Region,” -Idaho Statesman.

Eagle Performing Arts Center (EPAC) is a ballet academy that focuses on classical ballet and offers classes in character, tap, contemporary, and adult ballet.

Founded in 2004 by Cathy and Jeff Giese, EPAC’s ambition is to develop a respect for the art of dance while providing the highest quality training possible.

Having been with EPAC for eight years and former EPAC Artistic Director, Elizabeth (Liz) Keller recently made a seamless transition to become the new Director of EPAC. She has an extensive background in ballet and strives to continue EPAC’s legacy of being a successful training program.

"My vision for EPAC is simple," said Keller. “I want to continue the successful, professional-level ballet training in a nurturing environment with new energy and help instill a lifelong love and passion for the art of dance and the performing arts.”

Both Cathy and Jeff Giese have transitioned into less active roles but remain on faculty.

About Eagle Performing Arts Center

As a performing arts center, EPAC’s professional faculty has a refreshingly humanistic approach to training and preparing students for a meaningful and long-lasting relationship with the arts. Over the last 16 years, Eagle Performing Arts Center has been at the forefront of promoting dance in Idaho.

By performing throughout the greater Treasure Valley, dancers share their passion for dance with the broader community.

“I’m excited for the future and new beginnings while still keeping the same foundation of high caliber dance-education, and sharing my passion for the performing arts,” said Keller.

Eager for the next chapter at EPAC, Keller already has exciting plans for the dance facility.

New Additions to EPAC:

Introducing Black Box Studio For Live Performance

Totally Boise got a sneak peek of the 3,000 square foot Black Box Studio Theatre. The Theatre will be a space for classes, rehearsals and performances at EPAC. Idaho Regional Ballet will showcase ACT II of The Nutcracker this upcoming winter of 2020 in the new Black Box Theatre.

A New And Exciting Contemporary Program

EPAC recently introduced a new contemporary dance program for the more advanced dancers. Keller explains the dream is to slowly build a traditional modern program taught at lower levels, for younger dancers, where modern and contemporary dance coincide with the ballet curriculum. Currently, EPAC has three fantastic instructors who are all trained in modern dance; Lauren Edson, Brett Perry and Lydia Sakolsky-Basquill.

Younger Ballet Program For Early Development

EPAC enrolls students as young as 3 ½ years old. Keller emphasizes that there are many benefits to starting dance training at a younger age. Registering younger students at EPAC allows them to express themselves in a fun and creative way while learning discipline and commitment skills as well as gaining overall self confidence.

EPAC doesn’t just strive to provide the best training in Idaho; they are the best. Studying and practicing ballet at EPAC can lead to many opportunities for young dancers to grow artistically. EPAC Students and IRB Alumni have gone on to receive scholarships to colleges and universities, some have gone on to dance professionally and all have taken their dance training.

Keller’s experience, enthusiasm, and eagerness to succeed are apparent. If you are thinking about enrolling your child in ballet, we highly recommend EPAC.

The World of Dance During COVID-19

EPAC is open and adhering to strict COVID-19 safety protocols to keep their dancers, families, and staff safe. Classes sizes are limited, and masks are required.
