Almost all annual streamflow in the area originates from the snowfall that occurs in the mountains during the winter and early spring. Remember back in 2017 when Boise was facing severe flood warnings and seemed to be a little underprepared? Well, with all the recent rain and snow from winter, there is potential for another repeat, record flooding season. “The most important thing you can do is be educated,” says Boise Restoration Company owner Corey Langdon with Complete Restoration Services. From experience that came from the 2017 season, the Treasure Valley is more prepared than ever.
In 2017, the snowpack was 140 percent of normal on March 1. The Boise River flood level was 7,000 cubic feet per second. This year the snowpack in Boise is at 124 percent of normal. Although this year numbers aren’t as high, it is important to be watching if you live around a potential flooding area.

Did you know there are three upstream dams that are included in the Boise River drainage system? The three upstream dams are Anderson Ranch, Arrowrock, and Lucky Peak. Educating yourself on these three major systems and their current status will better prepare you for any potential flooding.
