Over 101 Years of Operation
The Old Idaho Penitentiary took in some of the West’s most desperate criminals starting in 1872. What started as a single cell house, grew to several distinctive buildings located off Warm Springs Ave in Boise. Over 101 years of operation and the penitentiary saw more than 13,000 inmates. The Old Idaho Penitentiary now serves as a museum featuring thirty historic buildings and special exhibits, including a collection of historic weaponry. Visitors are welcome to stop by to relive the Old Penitentiary’s exciting past of escapes, scandals, and executions.
