For the last 16 years, Monte Eldfrick has been the owner and operator of Woodcraft in the Overland Plaza in Boise, Idaho. His sons have grown up here. “Josiah’s been working since he was about four years old,” Monte recalls affectionately. The moment you walk in the door of this sprawling craftsmen paradise, you can sense you’re somewhere special. Woodcraft itself is a national franchise, but you will find that each branch is individually managed. If you’re looking to experiment with a new hobby or looking to hone your woodcraft skills, keep reading to learn more about Woodcraft of Boise.
Catch an In-Person or Facebook Live Demo
Every Friday and Saturday for the summer months, the talented crafters and employees at Woodcraft host free, live demos where you can learn in 30 minutes or less how to complete a new wood project. You can either come into the store to watch the demo in person, or you can tune in on their Facebook page. Recently, I was lucky enough to be in the shop to watch a demo on how to make your own cutting board. I grew up watching my father create his own wood crafts and home improvements but never found myself getting my hands sawdusty. As I watched the helpful and knowledgeable employee at Woodcraft explain step by step how to glue and assemble a cutting board from scratch, I walked away feeling empowered that I could take on this project at home. Every supply and tool needed to create and maintain this wood project was already in the store, making Woodcraft a one-stop-shop.
Here is a quick look at what demos are coming this summer:
Friday, July 2nd - Resin/River Table Part 3 - Now that the epoxy is cured, we need to sand and flatten our tabletop to prepare it for the final finishing stages. You will be amazed at how the beauty of this table really comes through during this stage. It goes from ‘mess’ to a real ‘masterpiece’.
Saturday, July 3rd - Resin/River Table Part 4 - Adding a beautiful wood finish to the river table. We will show you how to apply the OSMO finish. It is a simple, versatile, and 0-VOC (environmentally safe) hard wax oil that will show off the beauty of the wood and epoxy.
Friday, July 9th - Learn how to make a bird feeder with the Kreg Pocket Hole joinery tool. This tool is inexpensive and makes putting your project together simple and structurally strong. This bird feeder is just a start to all the things you can make with the Kreg Pocket Hole Jig (cabinets, furniture, indoor or outdoor).
Saturday, July 10th - Router Basics - Come and watch all the things that a router can do for you. You can make a decorative edge on tabletops, drawer fronts, picture frames. You can use a router to help put your wood projects together as well. We will show you how to use the router safely and open the doors of imagination to all it can do for you.
Even the Totally Boise team got to experience a woodworking demo for themselves and had a fantastic time.
