Boise’s seasonal off-leash dog program is back, and it’s time to let your furry friends run wild and free at three of the city’s favorite parks. With cooler weather and fewer crowds, this is the perfect opportunity for dogs and their humans to get outside, enjoy the fresh air, and embrace some off-leash freedom. Boise Parks and Recreation has announced that starting this November, you can take advantage of off-leash hours at Ann Morrison Park, Optimist Youth Sports Complex, and Simplot Sports Complex.
Off-Leash Season Dates and Locations
Mark your calendars, pup parents! Here’s when and where your dog can roam leash-free this fall and winter:
- Ann Morrison Park & Optimist Youth Sports Complex: Friday, November 1, 2024 (off-leash season runs through February 28, 2025)
- Simplot Sports Complex: Thursday, November 21, 2024 (off-leash season runs through February 15, 2025)
During this time, your dog can be off-leash in all areas of these parks from sunrise to sunset, with a few exceptions: keep your pups leashed on the Boise River Greenbelt paths, parking lots, roads, and playgrounds for everyone’s safety.
Why These Parks Are Perfect for Off-Leash Fun
These parks aren’t just big—they’re perfect playgrounds for dogs to burn off energy, play, and explore. With wide-open fields and plenty of space to roam, your dog will have a blast. Plus, with fewer people around as the sports season winds down, it’s an ideal time to enjoy some off-leash fun.
- Ann Morrison Park: Famous for its expansive green spaces, this park also features the year-round Together Treasure Valley Dog Island. Just a heads-up: as winter approaches, the ponds have lower water levels, so keep an eye on any icy spots for your dog’s safety.
- Optimist Youth Sports Complex & Simplot Sports Complex: These large fields are excellent spots for your dog to run, chase, and play freely. Cooler weather means more space for your pup to stretch their legs without the usual crowds.
Things to Keep in Mind
While your dog enjoys off-leash fun, here are a few things to remember to ensure everyone has a great time:
- Pick Up After Your Pet: Boise’s parks are beautiful, and we can all do our part to keep them that way. Always pick up after your dog to help maintain clean and safe spaces for all park visitors.
- Check Your Dog’s License: Make sure your dog’s license is up to date before hitting the parks. Not only is it quick and easy to renew, but it also ensures your dog is legal and safe while enjoying their off-leash adventures.
Stay Safe and Have Fun!
Whether you’re a regular at these parks or trying them out for the first time, Boise’s off-leash program is an awesome way to keep your dog active and happy this season. For more info on off-leash opportunities around Boise, head to the city’s website. Enjoy the fall fun with your pup!
