Earlier this year, the State Street Kitchen and Drinkery opened for business in the recently shuttered location of the Dutch Goose. Now open for business, the neighborhood pub has space for artists to come to show off their work. The owners are looking to create the same rotating beauty of the Freak Alley art gallery in downtown Boise.
Using their beautiful yard space, which has a large sprawling fence, the restaurant has a canvas ready for artists. But if you’re wondering about what exactly the 5-star dive bar is, keep reading!
Good-bye Dutch Goose
Many businesses faced unprecedented challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and one such business was the long-time State St. business, Dutch Goose. They closed shortly after a final Halloween bash. It wasn’t long until a new business was able to come into the established kitchen and bar space, and we can thank Jeremy for that.
The long-time Treasure Valley resident has dreamed of owning his own restaurant for as long as he’s been working in the service industry. He has an impressive 20 years of history in the valley alone. But he shared that opening State Street has not come without its own drama.
The Veterans Memorial Pkwy to Collister North End neighborhoods had a long-established love for the Dutch Goose, and can’t be blamed for being wary of a new business coming in and seeing the venture capital come from outside of Idaho. But Boiseans can rest assured that while the funding came from the Goodwin Group of Spokane, the vision and operations are under the management and direction of Jeremy - a Treasure Valley local.
Hello State Street Kitchen & Eatery
Looking to honor the memory of the Dutch Goose, much of the menu has remained the same. The same goes for some of the staff as well. Jeremy seeks to honor DG as often as possible. “I tried to save the original outside sign, but it fell apart from sun damage when we took it down,” he shares. The space received a small remodel, like a fresh coat of paint, larger windows, and a garage door to the backyard.
So while the State Street pub has polished up the old Dutch Goose space, maintained the grounded ambiance and authenticity of a dive bar, Jeremy and the Goodwin Group have worked to elevate the food and vibe, earning it the title of a Five Star Dive Bar. Families, dogs, music lovers, and the community around State Street can enjoy the continued service of this iconically Boise neighborhood bar.
