If you live in the Boise Bench as I do, you know that the options are limited when it comes to gathering places. That was until the team at Wander Medicine (located on the corner of Federal Way and Kootenai Street.) decided to address the community’s needs.
Despite the looming housing crisis hitting the Treasure Valley, Bill Brandenburg, a doctor with Wander Medicine, decided not to sell the land to apartment developers. Instead, he felt compelled to build an engaging, all ages, and year-round community gathering for the Boise Bench. And so Old Doug’s Plaza was born.
Old Doug’s will feature:
- 6 food truck parking spots
- 9 indoor food vendors
- Local beer and wine, which can be enjoyed throughout the entire facility
- Private event space
- An 11,000+ sqft indoor conservatory to socialize amongst native Idaho plants
- A raised, 2-story pavilion to enjoy the breathtaking views of the Boise foothills, downtown, and BSU campus
- Farmers and local producers market
- Public restrooms
- Nature-inspired children’s play area
Inspired by the iconic Douglas Fir that makes up some of the PNW’s tree ecology, the name of Old Doug’s was created by Bill with a lot of love for this neighborhood. The outdoor plaza is projected to be open in the spring or summer of 2022 and the indoor plaza will become available that summer or fall.
