Boise in Gloom

Last updated November 04, 2025 by Totally Boise

When it’s gray and rainy in Boise, we all tend to slow down a little. But honestly, we kind of love it -there’s something magical about grabbing a coffee, catching a flick, or finding a warm spot to hang out while the rain comes down.

We asked our team to share their favorite rainy day hangout spots to give you ideas for your next gloomy day agenda. From hot pot and pho to bookstores and pubs, here’s where our Totally Boise crew can be found on a rainy Saturday.

Tanner — Alchemist Coffee Shop

Tanner’s ideal rainy morning? A quiet corner, a latte, and the sound of rain at Alchemist. His go-to order is a hot chai, perfect for warming up while watching the storm roll by.

Derrick — Tupelo Honey

Comfort food meets southern charm. Derrick’s pick is Tupelo Honey, where the chicken, waffles, and laid-back atmosphere make for the ultimate comfort meal. His favorite order? The Fried Chicken and Biscuits — a must for any gloomy day.

Emily — UMI Japanese Shabu Shabu

Nothing beats warming up with hot pot on a cold, rainy day. Emily loves UMI for its cozy atmosphere and the chance to slow down over good food. Her favorite order is a classic Shabu Shabu spread, perfect for sharing with friends.

Hana — Pho Le

Hana’s rainy day essential: a steaming bowl of pho. Simple, soothing, and packed with flavor. Her favorite order is the Vegetarian Pho, light yet comforting enough to brighten any gray afternoon.

Dillon — Red Bench Pizza

A warm slice and a local beer is Dillon’s idea of comfort on a gloomy evening. His order: the Big Red Bench Pizza. Simple, delicious, and pure local perfection.

Spencer — Prost!

A cold pint in a warm pub. Spencer’s choice is Prost!, where the European style coziness and friendly crowd make it a second home on rainy nights. His go-to order is a Bitburger Pilsner and a Doner Kebab with Soup. Fun fact: he worked here for three years!

Carson — Regal Cinema Boise

Gloomy Saturdays are made for movie marathons. Carson loves catching a film while the rain pours outside, especially on $5 Movie Tuesdays, his favorite weekly ritual.

Holland — The Morrison Center

Rainy nights feel more magical with live performances. Holland loves spending the evening at The Morrison Center, soaking up Boise’s arts scene. She’s already got tickets for their upcoming production of Moulin Rouge and couldn’t be more excited!.

Jessna — Barnes & Noble

Coffee, reading, and that new book smell — Jessna’s happy place when the world slows down. You’ll usually find her tucked in a corner with a latte and a new read. She recommends looking into any books written by Emily Henry.

Noelle — Hyde and Seek Gift Shop (Hyde Park)

Noelle heads to Hyde Park rain or shine, but especially loves it on drizzly days. The boutique browsing and the cozy neighborhood energy at Hyde and Seek and Hyde Perk Coffee House make for the perfect way to spend a drizzly day.

Lauren — Shopping at The Village

Lauren’s go-to weekend activity is a little retail therapy and The Village’s covered walkways make it perfect for rainy day strolls. Want to shop local while you’re there? Check out boutiques such as Elle M and 1st Miracle Boutique for exceptional womenswear!
