Spotlight Real Estate and Solitude Homes know how important it is for responsible and affordable housing to be at the forefront of the housing market conversation. For years, they have been one of the Treasure Valley’s greatest resources for new homeowners, people looking to build their own homes, and those who are motivated to help ease the Treasure Valley housing crisis.
At its core, the housing business-duo shared with us what elements have led to the Treasure Valley’s rapid and historic growth in prices over the last few years. “The Valley is growing. Companies, corporations, and people are coming to Idaho, we are embracing it with open arms, however, the number of properties available for purchase has not been able to keep up."
Together they are both looking for what they can do as fellow members of this community to help empower Idahoans into homeownership while also looking at what the future of Idaho real
estate should look like. These steps look like education, coordination with local government organizations, and building programs and communities that make homeownership
available for everyone.

Building Idaho Responsibly
Owner and founder of Solitude Homes, Cody Weight, joined Jennifer Hickey - a Spotlight Real Estates founder - to share more about what it means to help Idaho’s housing market grow responsibly. “We’d prefer to not have growth this fast, but people are moving to the Valley whether we build homes or not.” Weight shared when asked to elaborate on what has truly caused Idaho’s historic house price increase. Both Weight and Hickey share the feeling that many long-time Idahoan residents have been feeling, but acknowledge that the growth is happening and the largest issue that has caused such high prices, intense bidding wars, and same day offers being accepted is the sheer lack of housing inventory that the Treasure Valley had going into the last years.
Their mission is to work towards creating a larger inventory of homes so that these issues can be resolved, but the creation of those homes brings up another concern to Hickey, Weight and many other Idahoans. That creation of inventory requires land, and many worry that some of Idaho’s incredible scenery and landscape will be lost forever if no one takes the time to think about what the future of Idaho could look like. That’s why Spotlight Real Estate and Solitude Homes are collaborating with the Building Contractors Association of Southwestern Idaho.
BCA is a non-profit organization on a mission to promote responsible development of Idaho land and our community. They accomplish this goal by working closely to represent the building community industry politically, economically, and professionally. They seek to communicate directly with those who are in some sort of political, legislative or regulatory role here in Idaho.

What to Expect While Building Your Own Home
Solitude Homes specializes in building dream homes for each of their clients. Their homes are an option accessible to first time buyers, those looking to join one of their professionally constructed communities, or for new residents to the Treasure Valley. Teamed with Spotlight Real Estate, they have been helping Idahoans for years either build or buy their next home.
Just like the low housing inventory that Idaho was dealing with in 2020 and 2021, building the inventory up has faced its own challenges. Faced with huge supply chain issues, and massive staffing shortages, the standard of what a customer can expect from the home building process has changed. Since the home building process is now longer with these obstacles, customers should look more into purchasing homes that are closer to completion than being a part of the whole process.
These are tips of advice from both Hickey and Weight to save buyers the complicated operation of home building in the current climate. But there is some good news. Experts are expecting the supply chain issues to begin returning to normal in the later half of 2022, and 2023 is shaping up to be a wonderful year for those who are looking to be involved in the home building process.
