A Little Background....
Wife and husband, Marcarah and Adam Wright started The Boise Period Project last spring. The project aims to help low income and homeless communities in Boise that are experiencing period poverty. The Period Project believes that period products are a RIGHT, not a privilege. Each pack is not only distributed to the community, but the goal is to connect directly to the community and homeless shelters. Ending the stigmas around both periods and poverty are what it’s all about.
What is period poverty?
When someone who is menstruating does not have the resources or income to purchase supplies.
“I came up with the idea for Boise Period Project after seeing videos and stories of homeless women/people and what they have to go through while on their periods- food for the day or menstrual hygiene products? Nobody should have to roll up toilet paper to work as a tampon or use a cardboard box to menstruate on.” -Macarah Wright, Founder & Executive Director
What’s included in a pack:
- 15 Tampons
- 5 Pads
- 5 Cleansing Wipes
- Liners
- Travel Hand Sanitizer
Each pack ideally includes enough supplies to cover one menstrual cycle.
