It’s officially December and the holidays are in full swing around Boise! With both the Grove and Capitol Christmas trees lit up, the holiday spirit can be felt all around town. While some may celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and others Christmas, all Boiseans are getting ready for December. Whether it’s making holiday plans or booking plane tickets for a more tropical vacation, everyone can look forward to one holiday event to bring them together: The Idaho® Potato Drop.
Everybody and anybody can find a good time here. Whether you celebrate the New Year on January 1st or not is unimportant. There are hundreds of reasons for all to enjoy this wonderful event. Here are the top five reasons you should go to The 5th Annual Idaho Potato Drop at Capitol Park!
5. VIP Room
Imagine counting down to the new year in a heated room with crystal clear glass walls that allow you to see all the splendors happening at Capitol Park. You’re eating hors d’oeuvres and drinking the night away in elegant style. You get to party with Haley Hunter, this year’s Mrs. Idaho United States, with DJ Rett Rokk and comedian Sean Hancock as your evening hosts. When the countdown begins, you have your glass of champagne ready to toast with your friends and family.
All this is included in the New Year’s in the Idaho Potato Drop VIP Room! If this is exactly how you want to spend your night, then don’t waste any time in buying your VIP tickets!

4. Wintry Wonders
Of course, you don’t have to be in the VIP Room to have the time of your life and the party doesn’t have to start so late! You can spend the day playing in the snow at the “Toyota Big Air Rail Jam,” brought to you by Inland Northwest Toyota Dealers and on the Tuber Luge, created by Gateway Parks Eagle. You can spend the day showing off your moves at the park or sliding down the high-speed tube sled and make the most of the last day of 2017!
3. Great Music
A party isn’t complete without good music, and there will be good music on the Grown in Idaho® main stage at the Idaho Potato Drop.
Headliner Band: Planes on Paper and Desert Noises, as well as a strong lineup of local performances by the Idaho Songwriters showcase, Boise Rock School, Zack Quintana, Voice of Reason Reggae, BREAD & CIRCUS, and Red Light Challenge. No matter your taste of music, you will find something to enjoy here!
Nothing says New Year’s like fireworks, and there will be plenty showering the sky above Capitol Park the night of December 31st thanks to Grown in Idaho®. There are only so many firework displays every year, so don’t miss your chance to watch the night light up with your community as you celebrate the New Year together.
1. Idaho Potatoes
Last but not least, this starchy star of the show is the number one reason to bring your loved ones to celebrate at the Idaho Potato Drop. As Idaho’s most famous crop, the potato is a symbol of our prosperity for many and what brings us recognition among our fellow states. Not only will you have a chance to spend the night partying with Spuddy Buddy, but you will have the chance to stop by the Idaho Potato Commission’s Big Idaho Potato Tour Truck! You will also have the exclusive Idaho opportunity to watch the Potato Drop. This year’s GlowTato is newly enhanced and brighter thanks to ECCO than ever dropped by Inland Crane!
Whatever brings you to the Idaho Potato Drop, you will be sure to celebrate in style, make a few last memories to remember for 2017, and start off the New Year the right way!
